We have been working with Web 2.0 and Social Media tools since they first emerged. We experimented on ourselves, finding ways in which the applications could support the work of the Euforic cooperative. On the basis of that experimentation we began to provide training and support and training to people and organisations working in international development. We were at the centre of the ground-breaking web2fordev conference in 2007 and since then have continued to evolve our ideas and services.
The Euforic cooperative closed at the end of 2009. With the full support of the Board, Euforic staff and associates formed a company to continue the training and support functions.
Web 2.0 in the mainstream
It's rare to find a development organisation in the North that is not yet using some element of Web 2.0 in their work. A typical organisational toolkit 2.0 might include blogging and microblogging, wikis and other collaborative tools, the use of multi-media, and customised feeds for news or knowledge sharing as well as use of online social networks. The focus now is on how to connect and integrate these tools into daily business processes across the whole organisation, for communications, knowledge sharing and campaigning.
In our projects we continue to learn about the best ways to tie the tools together and support business processes. We introduce these lessons in our training, learning from our participants and their own contexts and recording the outcomes in our resources.
